What it does
Uber is a global mobility and delivery platform (NYSE: UBER) founded in 2009 by Travis Kalanick and Garrett Camp. Headquartered in San Francisco, Uber operates ride-hailing, food delivery (Uber Eats), and freight services in over 70 countries. In Nigeria, Uber launched in Lagos in 2014 and has since expanded to Abuja and other cities. Uber competes with Bolt as one of the two dominant ride-hailing platforms in Nigeria. The company reported $44.2 billion in gross bookings and $37.3 billion in revenue for 2024. Uber achieved full-year operating profitability for the first time in 2023 and has continued to grow in Africa despite regulatory challenges and currency devaluation in Nigeria.
