What it does
Incorporated in 1997 as SmartCard Nigeria Plc (and later ValuCard Nigeria Plc), Unified Payments is a payment service provider and shared infrastructure operator owned by a consortium of major Nigerian banks. It was the first non-bank financial entity in Nigeria licensed as a principal acquirer for global payment schemes including Visa, Mastercard, and American Express.
